The Veneer Process

Veneers typically require two appointments. At the first visit, Dr. Burton removes a thin layer of enamel (usually 0.5–0.7mm) to create space for the veneer thickness — this preparation is permanent and commits the tooth to always having a veneer. A digital impression is taken and temporary veneers are placed while your custom porcelain veneers are crafted by the lab (10–14 days). At the second visit, temporaries are removed, veneers are tried in for color and fit approval, and permanently bonded to your teeth.

Porcelain vs. Composite Veneers

Porcelain veneers are the premium option: they're stain-resistant, highly lifelike (translucent like natural enamel), and with proper care, can last 10–20 years. Composite veneers are applied chairside in a single visit and cost significantly less, but are more prone to staining and chipping, and don't achieve the same level of realism. We offer both — the right choice depends on your goals, timeline, and budget.

Caring for Your Veneers

Veneers are durable but not indestructible. Avoid using your veneered teeth to bite nails, open packages, or chew ice. If you grind your teeth, a custom night guard is essential to protect your investment. Brush with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss daily, and maintain your regular six-month cleaning appointments. With proper care, your veneers should maintain their beauty for many years.
