The Denture Fitting Process

Achieving a well-fitting denture requires multiple appointments and a collaborative process. After extractions (if needed), healing takes 4–8 weeks before we take final impressions. We use those impressions to create custom trays for more precise impressions, then a bite registration to record your jaw relationship. A wax try-in lets you approve the aesthetics and fit before the final denture is fabricated. Final delivery and adjustments ensure optimal comfort.

Immediate Dentures

If you're having teeth extracted, we can fabricate an immediate denture in advance so it can be placed the same day as your extractions — you'll never be without teeth. However, as your gums heal and shrink over 4–6 months, the immediate denture will require relining or replacement to maintain a proper fit. We'll plan for this in your treatment.

Upgrade to Implant-Retained Dentures

Conventional full dentures rely on suction and adhesive — a situation that many patients find frustrating, especially lower dentures, which have less surface area for retention. Just two strategically placed implants (for a lower denture) or four (for an upper) can transform a removable denture into a snap-in prosthetic that stays firmly in place while eating and speaking. The denture is still removable for cleaning but functions far more like natural teeth.

Caring for Your Dentures

Remove dentures at night to allow your gum tissue to rest. Clean them daily with a soft denture brush and denture cleaner — not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive. Store them in water or a denture solution when not wearing them. Never use hot water (can warp the acrylic). Visit us annually for a denture checkup — relining may be needed every 3–5 years as your bone and gum tissue naturally changes.
