What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Tooth-colored fillings

Cavities can no longer wreak havoc thanks to tooth-colored fillings – a reliable restorative solution that repairs decayed teeth without leaving a visible trace. Consisting of biocompatible composite resin, Dr. Burton can color-match the material to blend in once it is in place. When applied to the area previously occupied by the decay, its flexible consistency will allow you to keep more of your natural tooth, increasing the chances of better oral health in the future.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

Once Dr. Burton evaluates the affected tooth, she will decide if a filling is enough to properly address the problem. If so, she will begin by administering local anesthesia to numb the portion of the mouth. Once you are comfortable, she will start cleaning out the interior of the tooth, removing all decayed portions.

She will then apply the composite resin to the space, filling it to the surface. This will help your tooth maintain its structural integrity. A curing light will be used to harden the resin before she makes additional adjustments to ensure your bite is even.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings offer many benefits that traditional amalgam fillings cannot, such as:

  • A more natural-looking, blended appearance that others cannot see
  • Enhanced confidence that shows in your personal and professional life
  • The ability to keep more of your natural tooth structure because of the composite resin’s malleability
  • Reduced risk of tooth damage over time, which is normally caused by the expansion of amalgam when exposed to extreme temperatures
  • Long-lasting results of 10+ years, depending on how well you maintain your smile
  • Lowered chance of tooth sensitivity, as resin is not a conductor
